hemi means half. there can only be two halves. the poles are determined by earth rotation and the equator is in the middle between the poles and divides into southern and northern hemispheres. the longitudinal division is completely artificial and arbitrary

Actually there are 4 hemispheres except that they overlap. Northern, Southern hemispheres divided by equator everyone knows. But there are also Eastern and Western hemispheres divided by prime meridian. I think the answer is Africa.

Africa’s division is because of the Equator and Prime Meridian. Kiribati’s division is because of the Equator and the International Date Line (which shifts the Eastern/Western hemisphere division there).

If you slice world half on prime meridian and then slice those halfs by equator, you would get 4 parts of the globe. But there is not Africa in western AND southern quarter of the globe.

modern (english) mankind has arbitrarily decided that the zero meridian goes through greenwich. so if you want you can speak of eastern and western hemispheres after that. but you can never say there are four hemispheres.
