@drj1189: Managing a chronic illness isn’t just lab results and prescriptions. It’s your whole life.” As a doctor, I’ve seen how isolating chronic conditions can be. But as someone who’s felt it too? I understand it on a whole different level. 💬 You’re not imagining your symptoms. 📅 You’re not lazy for needing time off. 🧾 And you’re not wrong for feeling overwhelmed by appointments, tests, and specialists. Here are 3 things I wish more doctors would tell you: 1. You might qualify for a care navigator through your insurance or clinic—someone who can help you coordinate your care and advocate for you. 2. Check with your HR department—you may be eligible for job accommodations so you’re not penalized for flares or appointments. 3. You deserve care that sees more than your labs. You deserve to be heard, supported, and believed. ❤️ If you’ve ever felt dismissed or discouraged while managing a chronic condition—this post is for you. Tag someone who needs this reminder. Save this for your next flare. And never be afraid to advocate for yourself. #ChronicIllnessAwareness #PatientAdvocacy #DoctorOnTikTok #InvisibleIllness #ComplexCare #MedicalSystem #AutoimmuneWarrior #ChronicFatigue #ChronicPain #HealthAdvocate #DoctorContentCreator #MedicineAndCompassion #HealthcareTips #PCOSAwareness #LongCovidSupport #WellnessJourney #DisabilityAwareness #FunctionalMedicine #MedicalEducation #youarenotalone

Being sick long-term is super expensive. Between lost work hours, medication and procedure costs, visit copays, dietary changes, and at-home accommodations, it costs so much money.

You can also ask for accommodations if you are the caregiver of a chronically ill individual. I have missed many many days of work for seizure flare upa, doctor appointments, etc. for my daughter.

I mis-judged my rheumatologist HARD. I cried and almost hugged him when he said "I believe you." 🥹

I finally had a doctor tell me that I sound very rational and like I’ve done a lot of research about my health…after years of being called crazy, it was amazing

It is exhausting keeping appointments and coordinating doctors. I have 4-8 appointments a month plus labs and tests. The physical and emotional toll is misunderstood.

It’s unfortunate that most people have to experience a chronic condition before they can empathize with someone who also suffers.

Louder for those exhausted patients in the back! Find a provider who WILL help! Complex care is complex for both patients AND providers. But some of us happily accept the significant amount of required brain exercise to FIND solutions.

I’ve been pretty stressed because lately I have been dealing with insomnia, and it gives me anxiety knowing that lack of sleep may cause flare ups :( any suggestion?

Im so lucky , because even if all my labs were normal, the doctors did everything to get my diagnosis and sent me to another specialist, so I can get better ✨

‘You deserve to be believed’ i went through 2.5 years of horrible nerve pain due to my middle scalene growing around my brachial plexus and I had 6 different doctors tell me I was too young to be in as much pain as I said I was. Finally saw a doctor who believed me & he did my surgery 2 weeks later. Doctors have hard jobs but making your patients feel crazy shouldn’t be one of them.

My struggle for the last 20 years. No one can tell me what’s wrong so they just assume it’s psychological or I’m drug seeking.
