Have a small wedding and a big fun reception. Outdoor simple weddings or backyard weddings. Don't try to impress others they aren't paying for your wedding.

just say I do at city hall, most marriages don't last, I think I saw a survey online that 80% of marriages in the last 25 years last between 5 and 10 years, I'm speaking from experience, not worth 200 dollars of debt, they always end badly

When we got married I did it all myself and just planned ahead of time buying what I needed and paying for it in chunks so there would be no debt. I also had a friend who was a planner and let me borrow chair covers, etc. it’s about you, not everyone else. Do what you can afford. You can make it elegant without all that cost if it’s planned out.

My friend friend had a Pakistani wedding, rented a large ship for the party, the groom or bride came in on elephants and this was in California. Divorced a year later.

My parents always said to make sure that you give enough money to at least cover your meal and drinks. You don’t wanna put the couple in debt.

Don’t borrow for a wedding. Spend what you can afford.

I witnessed so many of my friends go into unmanageable debt to get married. Hubs and I decided to scale back when we go married so we could afford to pay “cash” in everything. Best decision we ever made, we are so much closer to our financial goals bc of it. Meanwhile those other couples’ financial situations are a dumpster fire, continuing to rack up debt.

if you have to borrow the money and take out debt for a wedding then you can't afford what you bought. only spend what you can afford not what you want

I totally agree. I got a discover card with 0% for a year & paid it off in 4 months. Only used it for a small portion but it really helped spread out the cost.

We kept our budget within the average $30k, and selected a date two years in advance so we could arrange interest free monthly payments with the venue, including on site catering. These are the biggest expenses and it worked out for us without debt. We had no registry and just got money as gifts totaling half the wedding cost back.

First wedding I went to winery. I thought we were it and that was it we went did low budget nice but not expensive . The second one we just did in the back of his his mom‘s yard was nicely landscaped and we had some nice decorations and really I wish I did that for my first wedding we didn’t spend a lot less than $1000. we had one of my mom‘s friends cater it, and they worked out something with the money for food. I don’t know what was the deal. It was part of a gift.

Just be born into an Asian family and marry Asian, what you spend on your wedding, you get back in gifts usually 😒. Normalize gifting minimum $100/person if you attend a wedding

Getting married next year. We're doing tattoo rings instead of jewelry because of the type of work we both do. We are literally going to the JP with our immediate family and then going to a BBQ restaurant afterwards
