@olegpars7: Field Notes: September 27, 2025 Location: Botanic Walkway, Munich, Germany Encounter Summary: During a quiet autumn stroll along Munich’s botanic walkway, I encountered an extraordinary beetle slowly approaching me along the rusty railing. At first glance, it appeared ordinary, but then i saw an astonishing vibrant flower atop its back. Moments later, a curious bee landed briefly on this newly exposed bloom, confirming its authenticity before flying away. With the bee's departure, the beetle gently folded the floral display back into its carapace. Seconds passed in stillness before the beetle gracefully unfolded translucent, amber-colored wings from beneath its shell and swiftly took flight, disappearing among golden-leafed trees. Local folklore calls this species Chrysanthemocoris volans, or the "Flying Chrysanthemum Beetle." Legend claims these beetles developed their floral camouflage over generations to attract pollinators, providing an easy meal. Their brief flowering display aids both feeding and reproduction, marking a fascinating evolutionary adaptation hidden within urban greenery. .
