I would have agreed with this a few months ago.. but seeing how broken my spouse is and all of the work we are doing individually and together , the cheating was never about me. Now that he is back to reality he is truly remorseful and horrified at what his weakness and sickness did to us. However, ..my psyche , soul and heart are shattered. It is going to take a long time to get over it… if I can.

I’m not justifying cheating anyway, shape or form, but people cheat for different reasons and I think in some cases yes they do love their spouse, even though they are cheating. Two things can be true at once.

I was cheating because I'm an addict. Now recovering, but back then... I was betraying and feeling so guilt because can't show up as a loyal wife and hurt him. it's tearing apart - compulsive uncontrollable behaviour and what I'm going. In recovery I got tools and healed what urged me to choose egoistic fears over other person

It’s only the financial devastation it brings to the Cheater that keeps them in the marriage. Cheaters don’t stay for these other reasons you state . There is no love & respect for the spouse , the family unit & anything else . Only what it will cost to them financially in the divorce . So they stay to protect themselves financially.

I believe it’s biology, men especially, are hardwired to breed, and we choose to be monogamous…We’re polygamous by nature. It takes a lot of willpower and respect not to cheat and to try to not put yourself in that position where it would be tempting. However you can absolutely love someone and cheat. However, there was lack of respect and a selfish energy at that time. The real question is do they have any remorse for it? Is the behavior continuing?
