The major problem that UP 3985 had was infrastructure. Could She do the work most definitely! 4014 can do more😁 But 3985 many times that iron horse had to do without. And that's what destroyed her! And many steam locomotives deal with. But here's the the thing she'll be back! She needs a fresh pair of shoes new piston rings, bearings, flus, a couple of rivets, pipes and valves. Something that UP hasn't had on hand or anyone has made for going on 7 decades!

When I was a kid the old steam engines would come through my town still once in a while and we’d run down to the station when we’d hear them coming. Got to take a trip on one, so much fun.

Parts of the 3985 were used to restore the Big Boy 4014. Plans are to eventually return the 3985 back to the rails again
