@whitty.bee: Replying to @Yamomma So much of what’s trending in hygiene right now isn’t new it’s been shared and perfected by Black women for years. Giving credit isn’t optional, it’s necessary. Forever grateful to #BlackHygieneTok for showing up, sharing, and leading. 🖤 here are some great creators that did it first @Khaelan @MARANDA @Terree Ann 🫧✨ CreditCreators #HygieneTok #BlackGirlMagic hygienetok TikTok hygiene clean tok shower tok

It’s the fight against giving them credit that always gets me

lol my WHITE grandma has done everything they are getting “credit” for since the 50s. Just bc a bunch of them make TikTok’s of the SAME videos doesn’t mean they deserve credit. Give credit to the creators not the people promoting it lol. Why would I give credit to someone who sold me a cake but didn’t bake it? I wouldn’t if give my compliments to the chef himself. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Why are yall made I made a post crediting who I learned it from. Then someone got sideways with me, and then I was just stating a fact that often Black women do not get credit for trends. If you search “dusting powder” on this app, it’s going to be TONS of videos of Black women teaching about it. So YES they will get the credit from ME. No my mom didn’t use powder on me other than baby, yes my mom taught me about washcloths. Argue with someone else, yall will never get me to change my mind.

We definitely made it go viral on social media, but it’s always been a popular thing for women—just an older hygiene tip.

My great grandmother had dusting powder. Some of my favorite memories of staying with my grandmother are of getting to use hers after a bath, along with the matching lotion. Tell me yall come from white collar class.

Honey, I'm a white woman and my mama used dust powder. By the way I'm 62 years old. My mama used dust powder. She taught me to use dusting powder. It is not a black thing just each popcorn and sit down somewhere.

I went down the dusting powder rabbit hole after seeing a couple of those videos and now it's a daily staple. Thank you for acknowledging that was where the viral trend started.

My great, great Yugoslavian grandmother used dusting powder. She taught my great grandmother, who taught my grandmother, who taught me. It’s a generational thing, not race.

i started using dusting powder recently after seeing a African-American woman (BeeEnchant Dusting Powders) talking about it on TT. I started dusting powder when I was in my teens after watching several old movies(20'50s) and got into it. I stopped because of the issues with cancer. I'm glad she came on my FYP and started me on this trend again. 🤗❤️

A Black woman heard me complaining about how sticky I was in a Florida grocery store- she lovingly but firmly marched me to the personal care aisle and handed me a can of dusting powder! 😂 She saved my life that trip. I still use the stuff.

Powdering is a centuries old practice, particularly in times where personal hygiene practices were minimal and smells needed to be masked. The viral nature of the current trend can be credited but the practice is as old as time.

THANK YOU for giving credit where it is truly due!! Unfortunately Europe produced colonizers who stole EVERYTHING & brought over 30 infectious diseases because they did 👏🏽 not 👏🏽 bathe!! 👏🏽 Hence whyyyy women on #blackhygienetok are STILL teaching to this day the proper way to bathe effectively! So no, you can’t tell me that dusting powders didn’t come from a black/indigenous person!!
