a person that is defensive is not necessarily narcissistic. please don't assume that. it's there are ways you need to talk to certain people in certain ways. doing it in a positive way should be the way you always do it for everyone. a defensive person is that way because people usually make them feel bad for doing the best they can. and that person is fed up and trying to defend their efforts. ok? it's important to understand a person.

Stroke their ego. I also ask them "How would you handle XYZ?" If it aligns with my thoughts I say "That's brilliant! I would have never thoughts of that". Do what you need to get it across the goal post. I dont need my ego stroked to be happy.
