Most of our er attendings are referred to by all staff as nicknames. Dr Wagner? That’s Wags. Dr Ahlers and his wife Dr Ahler? Nope, Lord and Lady Ahlers

All of the residents introduced themselves by their first name which is how I knew them all and then I would always have a moment where I would need to refer to them in front of the patient and realize I didn’t even know their last name, so I learned that lesson quickly 😅😅

as a charge rn in all situations, patient, or interprofessional all doctors, be they resident fellow or attending are Dr. Last name unless directed

lol as residents we constantly forget to call eachother Dr so we r like “whaddup_firstname” in front of patients 😂. But yes I always introduce myself as Dr_lastname

First name always, unless we are in front of patients. I also answer the phone with my first name and the nurses are too kind and always say Dr. last name… I’m like oh please just my first name, Dr sounds too official 😂😂

I’m a nurse and I’ve noticed some of the residents/fellows and younger doctors go by their first name, but I feel weird about that. I always call them by Dr. Last Name

I’m a secretary for an ER and some docs will answer the phone by their first names, and I’m like well now idk who you are and I don’t feel comfortable calling you by your first name 😭

I did research in undergrad and the PI was definitely one of those ppl you’d call Dr/Prof no matter what but after his PhD students defended their dissertations he’d force them to call him “Mark” at least once lol

If I hang with my attendings outside of work, it’s first name hahaha. I’m not going to the bar with them calling them Dr. _____. That’s my “at what point do I start calling them by their first name” 😂

We had a new unit secretary in the ED who would page the residents overhead by their first name despite being corrected all week. Finally I couldn't take it anymore and had to have a conversation with her about why that's not appropriate 😒
