I hear what you’re saying, I’ve never got in via the ballot. A lot of the people I know that run it every year always do it for charity and raise £2k+ each year. Each year I get tapped on shoulder asking for a donation. It’s probably the easiest way to get in but you’ve got to graft for those donations

I TOTALLY agree. I got caught with the small print too, but then realised that the money is purely to get a training top, that not even worth it. They used to have a system that of you applied 2 times and didn't get in you was guaranteed to get in the follow year, BUT as more and more people were entering and not being successful they had to stop it. They also brought in the virtual option, I did this couple of years ago and it's just not the same, unless your very lucky and your community knows about it / there's a group of your doing it. You look like just someone out for a long run otherwise. I applied for 3 different charity places last year and each one wanted a minimum of £2.5k with a small print saying that if you don't raise / or are not expexting to raise the full amount by a certain date, they can either take the place from you OR you are liable for the remaining amount!!! Some of these charities have LOADS of places and raise £££££££ which yes,is going to a good cause but sometimes it feels like the bigger charities are just getting greedy.
