@dr.stefanosinicropi: So important to bring this to light. Too many decisions being made by people who never see the patient. This needs to change. A 42 year old woman. Crippling sciatic pain. A large disc herniation pressing on her S1 nerve root. Six days hospitalized from unbearable pain. She did therapy. She did injections. Nothing helped. I saw her last week. I promised her I would help. I scheduled a minimally invasive discectomy. It takes 30 to 40 minutes. Outpatient. Proven to work. Then came the "insurance denial" Reason? Her spinal stenosis was not "moderate to severe" enough. Let me be clear. This is not about stenosis. The disc is pushing directly on the nerve. -->She is disabled. -->She is suffering. -->She is on the verge of another hospitalization. Any spine surgeon can see this. Do a peer to peer and if it is group insurance go to HR.l don’t stop fighting for her reflief. I have similar pain from an accident . The pain is crippling… like having a million tiny fish hooks pulling my flesh apart while walking bare foot on glass shard. She needs you to fight for her.

Insurance companies do not care ! They need to line their pockets with our money so they can buy big houses and fancy cars along with yachts ! Time to find an insurance company that cares about human lives !

Someone needs to investigate these insurance companies. They take all that money in from people and then they won’t pay for needed medical care!

I pray something gets done about this. This administration would be the one to do it. I’ve watched this happen over and over.

The insurance companies always denies any procedures. My pain mgt Dr. always appeals each procedure. I had every procedure that pain management had given me and maybe one radio frequency/ablation worked for me for approximately 2 months. All others nothing

I have atypical trigeminal neuropathy and am in a lot of pain 24/7. I've been finding myself in more and more of a pain crisis but the ER is not going to help me nor will the neurologist admit me for help when it's so severe I cannot function like a normal human being. My neurosurgeon at Barrows said a deep brain stimulator might be one of the only things that could lessen my pain but insurance denied me. They denied the appeal also deeming the surgery experimental for my condition. I was told any kind of stimulator specifically for my facial pain will likely get denied.

The radiologists that read the imaging are partially to blame as well. Five years ago, I had that stated I had moderate to severe stenosis with S1 herniation. It’s been repeated every year since and now they call it mild to, thus making me in eligible for surgery

Insurance companies are in it for the money. They do not care. My mom had that surgery and it really helped her. I hope ur patient can get it approved and can get back to living soon. How awful.💔

I have severe spinal stenosis and a grade 3-4 spondylolisthesis. My pain is moderate. Thank God it isn't severe, because even going to the doctor for moderate pain, you will be told to takr Tylenol.

Looks like the insurance company wants to pay for more hospital admissions rather than a minimally invasive surgery.. make that make sense.

Yes that is ridiculous! I have this exact condition. It’s getting worse and worse. Since early April. I’ve been consistent on physical therapy and getting second ESI tomorrow. Does a microdiscectomy remove the entire disc? Or does it only remove the part that’s herniated / touching the nerve? What’s the ballpark cost for self pay if insurance won’t pay? Thank you.

What can we do about this when this happens? When you the doctor say it is needed and they say no !!! How ludicrous! It’s not fair!
