800 fathers did nothing. Why? They were the cops, the judges, the jail keepers, the doctors, the teachers, the brothers, the grand/fathers, the uncles.

unfortunately this happened all around Ireland especially here in Dublin, when the houses were being built near me they found remains of babies bodies because it was originally a mother & baby home for all the women from the County who were sent up here years ago. very sad!

So…800 children died of neglect in a “home” for unmothers in under 40 years…death records for hundreds existed…and no one noticed? That’s like two kids per month.

Everyone in Co Galway is a bit of a broad statement, I live in Galway and never thought this of her. She is an amazing woman and admired for what she has done. It was only a minority that were against her investigations

It’s not that they didn’t believe her. They ostracized her, because she knew and wouldn’t be silenced.

in 🇨🇦 Indigenous ppl say the same thing about their missing children who were forced to go to residential school, & are told the same thing. I'm glad she fought for the truth.

You are completely oveblowing the resistance she received. Ireland already knew about the abuse of children and the cover ups by the time she started her research. The church and its supporters would have felt this way but most people accepted how horrific the church was to children and women so her findings weren’t that surprising - except the size of the number.

they were found in a septic tank and the articles I read said nothing about working them to death these were just kids not adults that were found and how is it 3-year-old or younger going to work doing anything? I would still like to know how such mature children died though!

you're exaggerating the push back to Catherine. the powers that be didn't want it investigated but local people in Galway did not think this of her. she's an amazing woman who has done amazing work.

That's what abortion ban and purity culture does. I completely understand these women, who had no other choice and we're forced to birth unwanted children

How did something so terrible last for so long? How did the community not notice what was going, all of these babies disappearing?

Look up-Magdalene laundries, also known as Magdalene asylums, institutions, primarily in Ireland, that operated from the 18th to the late 20th century, initially run by the Church of Ireland and later by the Catholic Church.
