Idk why people are hating. We don’t know the traditional songs because our parents didn’t bother teaching us them. That’s not our fault. My parents didn’t teach me Urdu so I had to go out of my way to learn even that. Also, I was born and raised in the US, so yeah at my wedding I’m gonna sing songs I grew up on and from where I’m from 😭

I don’t see the issue with this - not everyone has grown up singing / listening to these songs? Taste also changes with time so not everyone will like the traditional dholki songs. Really not that deep - let people have fun 😂

😂 This is a dholki I could join in with instead of sneaking away! And for the people saying 'coconuts'. A lot of us were born to British or American parents and are 3rd, 4th, in some cases 5th generation. We may be ethnically South Asian, but that's it. I for one haven't even visited South-Asia. I don't relate to the culture and I won't apologise for it. It's not my culture. It's my ethnic heritage. Culturally I am a British Muslim.
