Too real. It's totally cliche, but I think 90% of my twenties has been and will be figuring out who I am outside of my career. Comforted to learn that physicians aren't exempt from that experience either.

Something that gave me immense inner freedom was when I withdrew my identity from my work. it doesn't define me, it's just something I do. When the personal falls away there is room for so much more natural creativity to emerge

If it makes you feel better, it could just be a reaction to your life paths closing. When applying to med, all I could see myself doing was med, after getting accepted I was like maybe I should be a seamstress 🤪? I had already considered that beforehand. I realized it’s just stress from actually committing to such a big thing

Medicine demands so much of us all the time I think it’s actually a good thing that you are thinking about life outside work. I know many colleagues that have not been able to accomplish any sort of balance and it’s tough to watch their careers consume them.

As a nurse I felt this. I really couldn’t grasp how bad I needed to leave the hospital until I did. Now I WFH and my stress levels have gone down significantly. It’s allowed me to try so many other facets in life now that I have energy.

That's why I love the ER - I genuinely get excited to go to work & hunt for the sickest patient in the ER. It's a game to me, constant dopamine flow. Gotta find a way for psych to give you that!

I’ve been a nurse for close to 8 years. I try not to do overtime. I’m learning how to sew. It’s so rewarding. I’m learning Astrology more in depth. I like reading esoteric stuff. I like reading silly stuff. Medicine/Nursing cannot be all of life
