I would argue that renoir is acceptance b/c he's trying to get his family out of the canvas - he had hope outside. (p) verso is depression b/c he gives up hope in the canvas. death for him and the ppl of lumiere is his only viable solution

just gonna say it's kinda clear that Aline at least partially blames Alicia/Maelle, just look at the way she's painted with the mask. then look at the way she painted Renoir and Verso.

Painted Renoir and Outside Renoir. I don't like calling them Real and Fake. Cuz the Painted people are real too.

Clea is not just angry at her family, she's a narcissist that's violently jealous of Alicia and Verso getting all the attention of their parents while she 'apparently' take the lead of the family outside the painting. but there is sooo much more to say about her, inside and outside of the painting. she's the real antagonist of the game :)

I hope we learn more about the Writers and how they took advantage of Alicia's writing hopes to attack the Painters

I thought the red petals were associated with renoir, but when esquie and monoco gommage, they are red petals but no version of renoir exists in the painting so it can't be. i now think it's related to who created them but need more time to think

As someone who’s in their 4th playthru this is pretty much more than mere theory. I’d go as far as saying it’s confirmed and intentional.

Thank you so much for giving voice to the thought that nagged at me while I was still playing. I noticed, but kinda brushed past digging deeper cos I was holding back the floodgates of my own emotions while being bombarded with those from within the game 😅

I really like this. I do have some of my own opinions about which stage is represented by which character, but the pedal theory is interesting

This theory is fantastic. I didn’t think of this. I did notice the different colours but didn’t associate them with different flowers, just different coloured petals for family members (if that makes sense?)

This will further consume my mind! I couldn’t stop thinking about the stories after finishing the game. 😭 thank you for this theory. Beautifully expressed.

My favorite show is Haunting of Hill House, where the family represents stages of grief. I IMMEDIATLEY clocked the stages of grief in E33 lol

Yes I haven’t seen anyone talk about this the best example for me at least is the very last scene of Versos ending. When they all fade away Maelle turns into her yellow golden pedals and Verso into the white pedals of Aline’s gift. While Gustave Lune and Sciel all turn into red petals. But after just rewatching it Esquie and Monoco didn’t seem to produce any petals at all which maybe symbolizes their creator the original Verso being gone I’m not sure they may just have not wanted an esquie size bunch of petals in that last shot.

oh wow, this is amazing. red poppies are a symbol of remembrance, we have poppy/remembrance day here. the poppies are often seen as the blood on flanders field. a symbol of resilience, and rebirth. growth thru horror, despair, and grief. never forgetting those we have lost. trying to learn from the tragedy. 💖

There's something about the areas in the game and the different colors too, like the yellow forest and the white cliffs and so on. Didn't super decipher it beyond each area/person definitely had a color

After playing for the first time I wondered if some characters could be associated with the stages of grief, so glad you took the time to explore and explain it!!!
