@kenreid.co: The anti self-abandonment brigade honestly need to take a hard look at why they seem so aggressive towards their past self as well as people who self-abandon. Firstly, self-abandoning is not the end of the world. We all can do it in some degree or another, it is what it is. But getting up in arms about how terrible it is to self-abandon is not a sign that you’ve healed. It’s a sign you’re feeling a lot of shame over yourself. Yes, self-abandonment can cause a lot of suffering and pain. But self-abandoning is part of a very sophisticated trauma response, fawning. The fawn response isn’t trying to hurt you even if that may be the end result. Undoing the fawn response starts with curiosity, not banishment.
