@pristyq: It's my last full day in Japan. I sat on the rocks, staring at the waves lap and recede, listening to them crash at the shore, all in an attempt to anchor myself in the moment. But my mind kept latching onto other things, like the mountain of work that awaits me at home. Like this thick, clogging fear that the people at my workplace won't perceive me outside the role of my job, that they'll forget I'm a human being too when I return from my break. But then I looked up and the clouds suddenly dispersed. Unearthing from the mist was Fuji-san, standing tall against the horizon that was kissed golden orange by the setting sun. I'm not a religious person by any means but in that moment, it was as if the universe was telling me something. Was reminding me that I didn't need to bank my worth on my job, that my purpose in life can be as simple as experiencing the beauty of the world as it is. It bloomed an ache beneath my chest and made me tear up. This whole summer has felt like the most magical dream. And I will miss it, and I will grieve it, but I'll also let it fill me with hope and strength to make it through the rest of the days until I can capture such moments again. Until next time, Japan.
