@cascadiaclassic: 🫤 #countach #supercar #exoticcars #wolfofwallstreet #scorsese Yes, a real Lamborghini Countach was indeed destroyed during the filming of "The Wolf of Wall Street." Director Martin Scorsese reportedly insisted on using a genuine Countach for the infamous crash scene because he felt a replica wouldn't "crumple up properly" or provide the level of authenticity he desired. Two 25th Anniversary Edition Lamborghini Countachs were used in the production. One was the "hero car" that was heavily damaged in the scene where Jordan Belfort (Leonardo DiCaprio) drives while under the influence of Quaaludes. The other was an undamaged backup car used for other shots. Interestingly, even after the initial filming of the crash sequence, Scorsese reportedly deemed the damage insufficient and ordered his crew to inflict further destruction on the car to make it appear even more wrecked. The heavily damaged "hero car" has since been preserved in its "as-seen" condition from the film and has even been put up for auction.
The auction rejected a $1.35M bid for the wrecked car which is laughable considering the highest Countach sale on BaT hit $775k for a car with <200 miles

Sad part of this is they only paid Jonah Hill $60k to play his iconic key roll in the film. They should give Jonah the proceeds from the sale of that car.

It definitely made the scene more iconic and bold that they used a real one. Makes the car enthusiasts have a truly hard watch ahaha

It is absurd to call that scene one of the most iconic ever made. Truly an insane take on this.

A replica could have easily been built to such detail where most people wouldn’t have noticed it was a replica. What a waste.
