The one thing I've heard is if you are pitching a comedy, you better be funny.

a few months ago I went to an event where a bunch of people pitched their movies. a few bad, a few good, but the one that really stood out was someone who bursted in tears in the middle of it. he was actually sobbing, struggling to finish reading his notes cause the story was really personal and related to someone of his family passing. he managed to finish pitching and it's the only one of the rooster that I still remember today, so yeah, if you wanna make a good pitch you need to know how to act (though I really doubt he was)

I feel like the scenes of Richard E. Grant’s character pitching in The Player teaches you so much of what you need to know.

Another big question: what’s the dresscode for pitching a movie? 🙏🏻

For the longest time, the only real examples we had were from The Player.

yeah i thought this was obvious. a pitch is a performance. you need to make the people yer pitching to feel the emotion

When we pitched our show, this is how Jeff Lieber did it. It was awesome pitching with him because I had no idea what to do and his pitching style is theatrical. We read lines and just told the story. So rad.

How do you find producers to pitch too?

It’s like when in class everyone takes turns reading a book. Some people were more interesting to hear read than others. Some people out you to sleep, some people keep you engaged. Same book, same words.

I work retail so I’ve been perfecting my bantering skills to make sure I can be personalble, quipy, and can banter since i primarily focus on comedy. As an introvert, I think my biggest draw back would be the pitch since I really hate putting myself out there, but working in retail for so long I realized I can use it as a practice space to get better at being likable 😂

I liked some of the anecdotes about selling scripts in the save the cat book including David Kirschner pitching Hocus Pocus by putting on a whole show for it including actresses dressed as witches! I think there was another story about pitching by sending a fun prop to carry the script its connected to be sent to producers

I think I could do the pitch, how do I get in front of the producers?

Hi Nic! Love everything you do. I saw The GOAT being talked about at Annecy and it seems very in line with your brand, but then I also see you write stuff like Invaders. I went to NYU and I’ve heard a lot of strict guidelines about branding yourself and staying within the genre you know, so how do you pitch your style and voice and explain dipping into other genres to producers?
