As a chess player, I agree you learn tons about a person by how they play. If they don’t know how to play I’ll teach them just so I can learn more about them. Chess is art, a game of wills, some willingness to gamble, planning, attacking, being gracious in winning and defeat. It cares not for your social status, wealth or where you live. It’s a game which has never left me for long once I learned how to play.

I play euchre, but the cheat code to this is letting the other person have white and then play a computer duplicating their moves and play its moves as black. And yes I cheat to win in real life 😇

human beings are incredibly complicated creatures, seems a little shallow to think you can sum them up in a game of chess. This feels more like a way to stroke one's own ego and sense of intellectual superiority than genuinely getting to know someone.

I'm not discrediting your experience, but I wanna say it's a spectrum, it'll be hard to accurately read brand new ppl bc they don't quite comprehend but also top tier players because they have actually strats and adapt at absurd speeds, but idk 🤷😂
