@irelandamvmtv: "I was 16, when I was given a chain and a whip, and I was told to mortify myself." Anne Marie Allen shares the harrowing reality of her seven years under Opus Dei’s control in Ireland. A life marked by religious coercion, physical punishment and unpaid domestic labor #IrelandAM
Applause to Anne Marie for sharing her story. Catholic institutions have ruined so many lives, my Grandmother disowned her son for leaving the priesthood. He was uncomfortable with its environment. He was sent to college at 7 years old, then to a seminary, he finally broke out in his 40s. Then married and had a family, thank full to his strength of self. So many stories so many lives unfulfilled due to Catholic Church.

poor families were targeted to give their children a great education in catering and housekeeping what was given was abuse the results were not worth the paper they were printed on I'm actually writing a book on opus dei as they were nothing more than a cult you got to see your family one weekend a term no proper interaction with other students the houses they had were fabulous which were called retreat houses parents never knew what went on in these places I was there 2 yrs and couldn't get out of it quick enough

They recruit in universities. I’ve seen it first hand. Anyone with university going young people should warn them!

Mortification is most dangerous when they target children and elderly as manipulation objects

I have very clear memories of the fear of cults in the 80s in Dublin. They’re just seem to be so many. Out recruiting on a Saturday on Henry Street and Grafton Street.
