Scythe was madly often a weapon. The best and most accessible kind of blade a peasant could have. They slightly altered it to turn the blade 90°.

I’d argue superhuman characteristics make things much more valid. A scythe is much more useful when you can swing it at Mach speed with 0 difficulty and have superhuman hand eye coordination

Actually, real life ninjas in ancient times occasionally used sickle and scythes as weapons because they could be easily concealed in farming villages

the only edge iv found in impractical weaponry is very few people know how to defend against it, there is no such thing as as a universal guard that works well when it comes to some weird geometry and leverage you've never encountered before and that goes for using the environment too

I think that the scythe would be impractical because it has to be at a certain angle and held a certain way to hit a person with the inside of the blade. Probably great for decapitation but not much else

I think y'all are confusing which kind of scythe their talking about,Yes things like sickles and such classify as scythes but it's not the one we are talking about,The classic scythe you typically see really wasn't ever used in actual Warfare as it just wouldn't work with a group of soldiers,you would be shoulder to shoulder with these people so you wouldn't be able to swing

“You couldn’t use this in real life” as if they aren’t always used in a work of fiction 🥀. Like people hold their suspension of disbelief for so many weapons but that farming weapon is where they draw the line 🙄

if you wanna use a normal scythe in combat do two things: 1: align the blade with the handle. no not like an irl war scythe 2: sharpen the back of it. the biggest issue was always that you have to put the enemy between you and the sharp part then pull back, but being able to hook into them and cut out or cut while advancing fixes that

My favourite is the power scythes in warhammer, because it makes some sense given how massive the space marines using them are. Most enimeies they’d be fighting would be shorter then them so the motion of a scythe would actually do something

I always categorize them differently bc of the shape and handles. Grain scythes have the handle sticking out the side and the length of the handle is also kinda wiggled. War scythes, or combat scythes, have the straight handle, slightly curved to the blade, and the blade is double-edged as well as pushed back for balance

I have a character who uses a scythe and every time I imagine her using it I think of my sisters colorguard performances so I think of her using similarly to that but a lot faster. I know that it’s probably not feasible but that’s just kinda how I imagine it.
