I wonder if Celine has trouble seeing the Honmoon without the Sinmok tree unless something happens to it if she can still see it at all. When she and Rumi had their fight, Celine was mainly watching the hanging papers on the branches rather than the Honmoon itself. Maybe as Hunters get older, their abilities dwindle until they can't see the Honmoon or use their weapons, like how Celine watches the Sinmok tree for signs of disturbances in the Honmoon and wields a farmer's scythe rather than whatever her Hunter weapon was.

Well done on your presentation! we do 살풀이 as a form of spiritual ritual but there are folk dancers who perform it as a folk dance/play (so not the SAME impact per se). 신목=신나무 are usually a type of 서낭신 - village guardian tree deity ^^

i’m a korean lit & culture major too! (i think we’ve had classes together?) i’ve been looking for a video that broke down these aspects of the movie! I also noticed that when showing the different generations of hunters one of them looked a lot like the Kim sisters who paved the way for K-pops global success! awesome video!

I wonder if they kept the characters for Honmoon secret because the Honmoon itself is a subjective spell. I don’t study Korean so idk what the alternatives would be but I think it’d be an interesting headcanon at least. This is an amazing presentation btw!

Thank you for the Hanpuri part! I know a lot of people were upset by it but i found Jinu’s death beautiful. In sacrificing himself he was finally able to set his soul free and now he doesn’t have to be in the underworld with Giwma. A part of me hopes he’s with his mom and sister now 🥹

The interesting thing about the Korean grim reapers is that throughout history, they were never really depicted as the pale beings dressed in all-black gat and hanbok that we’re familiar with today — the all-black portrayal is actually very new, coming from a Korean horror TV series from the 70~80s. Before that, they were shown in paintings wearing much more vibrant clothing

The lotus point is interesting because lotus signifies rebirth too which is kinda what rumi is trying to achieve in a sense through the honmoon! Just a thought I had when you pointed out the lotus shape
