NY has the second largest concentration of Jews in the world. Mamdani has said a few phrases such as “globalize the intifada” and “from the river to the sea”, that SOME use to call for violence (I.e. harkening to the most recent intifada) or ethnic cleansing of Israel (I.e. replacing a Jewish state with a Muslim state), respectively. While I think the “will you visit Israel” question is silly, I do think pushing for clarification on these fraught slogans is entirely appropriate, given the interests of the electorate.

I have mixed feelings. I like him but Mamdani is not prepared to handle a catastrophe or crisis if one happens. The city is a mess right now. I think it needs an excellent executive.

There’s over 8 million people in New York City. Jews make up approximately 1 million I think they have a right to ask about his views on Israel, how he’s gonna manage antisemitism and violent acts against Jews.
