i really don't blame celine in here cuz it's not her child? ik Celine didn't love rumi, she tolerated her because she was the last thing her sister left her..all her life working as a hunter, fighting against them, and then her sis fall in love whit one of them just to die after it and then raise one of the things used to hunt who is at the same time your niece... it's a lot to process (imo)

It's a symbolism for shame. She had to keep hiding it because she thought no one could love her completely if they knew about her scars, the more Rumi hid the scars, the more her shame grew, knowing she could've been something better.

I realised earlier on my second rewatch that Celine was probably a large part why Rumi felt uncomfortable with showing her true self to the others, telling her to cover up ever since she was a child - I feel like her mother would have helped her feel comfortable in her skin 💔

I thought the plot twist in this movie would've been that Celine knew that everyone who had the patterns would be banished, and was going to use Rumi to do what her sister couldn't, and then let her be dragged into the underworld, effectively both saving her sisters legacy and ending the demons. But this was so much worse. That Celine both loved her and resented her, both for something she couldn't control.
