I replaced all the flooring (because it was kinda manky) with the idea that once I sell, it’s their flooring. If they like it, yay, if they don’t then they can replace it themselves.

I agree! Went into a home that reeked of cats and dogs. Wanted to immediately walk back out. We didn’t want to have to deal with replacing the carpet and possibly subflooring too!

well maybe the Buyers budget are bottom of the barrel. not saying some buyers aren't over priced and delusional but I've seen some pretty delusional buyers thinking 100k will get you a fully remodeled home

We are currently in the process and one house that we adored was very original to a late 50-60 era. We loved the lighting, cork, quirky Brady Bunch fixtures, but tried to discuss the carpet allowance, or even just changing the one matted orange stained and sun bleached rec room. Seller said she liked them and doesn’t see anything wrong with them. We left it on our maybe list and kept shopping, then found a home that checked as many boxes. The OG house sat for weeks and I can only hope whoever buys it updates it gently.

My parents recently sold their 22 year old house with the original carpet. They were willing to replace or offer a credit but realtor said don’t do either unless the buyer asks.

my daughter just bought a year ago. seller put new Grey carpeting in and she HATES it. other things to do so now she has to live with it until she can afford new. if no smell and decent looking, deep clean and give an allowance if asked.

As a buyer, Id drastically performance someone offer a credit in the listing... even though our agent is a little goofy and doesnt understand credits🤦‍♀️. Its really irritating when im walking through and HATE what's there, but can tell it was just done. Offering a credit tells me that you're owning that theres a problem and not just expecting me to eat it.

We are thinking of selling soon. Also, I know my current carpet is not awesome, so I’ve thought about adding in an allowance for the new buyers to pick out what they want. Is that a good idea?
