@shanboody: “What’s there to be afraid of when you’re the villain?” For @duckwrth, the fear is becoming his father — repeating the same pain he witnessed growing up. He sees the resemblance in his face, in his expressions… and he wants to run from it. So when Shan asks, “If you’re so afraid of becoming him… why do you still do it?” He explains what it feels like to disconnect. To move through life like an avatar — but detached, like someone else is in control. Because fear doesn’t always stop the cycle. Sometimes, it feeds it. #LoversByShan #Duckwrth #FatherWounds #GenerationalTrauma #Masculinity #vulnerability #LoversPodcast #ToxicMasculinity
Maybe instead of criticizing his dad, he needs to try to understand him. It’s possible he’s repeating some of the same mistakes because he never gave his father the grace he now wishes he had for himself.

So don’t repeat it. It’s really that simple. If you can identify it to the point of an out of body experience, you have all the tools to not repeat. The problem is you don’t want to put the tools to work to build a new experience

We may not like our own behaviors, but if we don’t see examples of anything else, we end up continuing those behaviors because that’s all we know. It takes a lot of effort & time to open ourselves up to doing things differently, but it’s still possible.

No you do the things your father did purposely in hopes to one day understand why he did them. But eventually, they became habits you couldn't break because they became a part of you.
