As a mindfulness based therapist, this is literally what I teach my clients, the objective for meditation is to practice shifting your attention back to your breath, which teaches you to guide your attention and detach from your thoughts.

Meditation = processing the thoughts resonating thru you without judgement, just be a witness and the body will respond naturally. Walking meditation is my favorite.

There is no right way to meditate. I do so by listening to mantras and weight lifting. Or by praying/reciting mantras and walking in circles. Can be motionless, or at high intencity and everything in between. All it takes is presence and shutting off the mind, by occupying the mind with something you can control.
