You're absolutely right....TONS of nuance on this topic. The unseen intangibles of a coach come into play here.....time, score, game flow, trust in your complete team. For me....it's on a game-by-game basis due to the aforementioned intangibles being so fickle.

Depends on the player. If it’s your primary ball handler and you feel like you need them late then you protect them. A lot of great points!

if you sit a guy significantly and he doesn't foul out you've denied your starter minutes on the floor for no reason. 28 minutes and 5 fouls is better than 24 minutes and 4 fouls

For me it depends on their game if they’re a defensive player im more likely to bench because he’s more likely to foul. If it’s an offensive guy i tell em be cautious and play them regular minutes in second half
