vintage sizing is just like that modern sizing is called vanity sizing as brands started labeling clothes as smaller as a marketing strategy; size 8 is literally the vintage equivalent of a 00 or 000

Please also keep in mind it was much more common in the past to have your clothing tailored to fit. So many women bought a larger size, then had it taken in, making the size label inaccurate.

In certain countries the smallest size is labeled 4 and equivalent to a Us 0. I think that applies for the uk for example
