She was his first love and always will be. That’s why he could never be official with kagome, because he knew she was there. Once she died and he grieved her is when he later finally vows to protect kagome and is more forward with her. In the first seasons kagome realized this about Inuyasha and she chose to stay. By his side regardless even when it hurt her. This scene shows how big her heart was, because she was sad for her, grieving her in her own way as she always knew their ending was tragic and could never change. She let him say goodbye, because she loves him

I just finished rewatching the series. kikyo and inuyashas relationship is a metaphor for grief. he has no time to grieve her and was falling in love with kagome at the same time.

This kiss was more of closure to the tragic love they lost and the life they could have lived, not so much a romantic kiss. Growing up I couldn’t understand Kikyo and Inuyasha’s dynamic but now as an adult that has seen people lose a loved one to d*ath, I get it. It also shows how much Kagome has matured emotionally and her endless empathy for others, even for Kikyo.

let's all be mature and let Kikyo and Inu Yasha finally have the closure that they needed 😂 Even Kagome grieved over Kikyo. A person can have two great loves in their lives, and it doesn't diminish one over the other. Kagome is not the rebound. She is the Love that he found and chose to have a future with. Kikyo is not the scorned lover, she is a woman who is finally free and allowed to rest.

This is legit one of my favorite scenes of Kikyo. I know people hate her but this paid so much respect to her. Her soul was so huge - full of goodness, hope and the love she couldn’t give. This is why she’s my favorite character. She took on so much yet got so little. Ugh love Inuyasha
