Firefighters wearing air tanks need to move them regularly because each tank (or more precisely, the firefighter’s gear) is equipped with a motion sensor. This sensor is part of a Personal Alert Safety System (PASS). If the firefighter stops moving for a certain period of time, the sensor triggers a loud alarm. This helps rescuers quickly locate a firefighter who might be unconscious, injured, or in distress. By moving the tank (or their body), the firefighter ensures the system knows they are still okay and prevents a false alarm.

They do that cause they have sensors in their jackets that if they stop moving for a certain amount of time an alarm goes off telling other firefighters that the firefighter in unconscious or dead
