“Driverless cars are bad because pedestrians won’t get slaughtered in the street”

driverless cars won't work because they can't accidentally kill children. 🤦‍♂️

The problem with driverless cars is that pedestrians don’t have to be afraid of them?

Bros like: "the problem with seat belts is they take away the incentive to drive cautiously" "the problem with airplanes is that they don't crash on enough, and now there are too many of them and everyone is late"

You can just enforce crossing walk laws like California

I can’t believe I had respect for this guy and used to read his books. Then I hear him speak. The guy is total nonsense. Because humans kill other humans with cars, hence we should keep cars with humans. Love the logic!

The Tipping Point is from 2000 which means he's been chasing a new idea for 25 years.

As someone who uses driverless cars somewhat often, this doesn’t happen. I’ve never had the car stopped by someone messing with it

You’re not thinking far enough in advance, bro. Those Waymo have cameras that could be technology can solve that problem. Take pictures and notify police.

Comments missing the point. In a big city, there are more people than cars. All it takes is one person to jaywalk, stop an entire fleet of robocars and then 10+ pedestrians will follow. Good luck ticketing all of them

That’s until the driverless car manufacturers teach the driverless cars to inch forward like what a human driver would do.

He’s right, just his example is not good. Once people in cities realize that the cars automatically stop they will just cross the street anywhere and anytime they want. It would be a mess.

Driverless cars will work in some parts of Asia because people here exercise more self discipline, adhering strictly to traffic laws and exhibiting a higher degree of orderliness on the roads. Our cultural emphasis on collective harmony and rule following creates an ideal environment for autonomous vehicles, minimizing unpredictable human behavior that could otherwise pose challenges for their widespread adoption and safety.
