It’s given me the impossible back, redefining the world through adrenaline and a stubborn refusal to stay down. I used to think a lot of the world was off limits because of my disability. I believed in restrictions simply because they were assigned to me. Now I don’t. Now I skate. This sport gave me life, but to move any forward and access my true skill, I need a custom WCMX chair. I currently skate in a chair that’s 4 inches too wide, so I stuff it with rolled up sweatpants for stability. This chair is highly limiting itself - lt lacks necessary parts for key tricks and hinders my skill at the park. I risk my body while skating in a chair with this width and weight; the lack of stability and control is often the reason for my falls. To qualify to compete and progress in my abilities, I need a safe, well-fit chair with all necessary parts. I am beyond grateful to have received partial funding from the Kelly Brush Foundation, but I need to reach this goal in order to get the chair started.
