I did an entire presentation on Dr. Seuss in 7th grade and I never knew this! As someone who grew up 12 min from Springfield, MA, where he lived & grew up..I feel robbed of crucial knowledge that I should have known. It wasn’t illegal to possess alcohol - people stocked up for an entire year prior to prohibition going into effect. Now of course after awhile you start to wonder how one could have stocked up so well… but you could have it. Just not buy or sell.

My substitute teacher Mr Thomas was his college roommate and walked with a cane that “Dr Seuss” / Ted carved for him. There were characters on the cane that were never in any books. Mr Thomas was the coolest sub ever he would give us packs of lifesavers for taking roll call for him. He would tell us stories about his Dartmouth years
