That’s not really accurate. No company is pulling copper out of the ground at a high rate. They are putting fiber in as they can and leaving old wires. Only decommissioned facility wire is recycled

When I talked to our AT&T rep in 2018, the word was that they wanted out of copper by 2025.

the beauty of copper landlines is that, especially as someone who lives outside of cell phone range, during a power outage my landline still works

So since you're selling the copper that you pull out of the ground you're passing those savings off to the customer right.

The best part is that all these telecoms got hundreds of billions to extend internet service in America and pocketed the money while paying off politicians 🤣

Considering how big AT&T is ,the revenue they will generate selling copper will lower costs of converting entire network to fibre.

Copper DSL is still the best internet I can get. I’d do terrible things for fiber.

the price for copper service is in fact not attractive. at work I've seen them charge up to $300/month for a single POTS line. 😳 the price has gone way up

AT&T has nothing to do with the previous Bells corps. It is brand only and entirely run by former us intelligence community. lol

Transmitting data through light seems like magic. I think people don't realize though how much we have been able to leverage the copper that is the ground already. VDSL2 and G.fast, that's real magic.
