Let me clear, I’m talking about the facilitation of these conversations. This is why I specifically noted it being on the internet. If a person is not actively interested in changing their minds, how you say a thing does not make a difference. Peoples favorite content creators will curse them out and they love them for that. And a lot of that “condescending” tone is up to interpretation like you said. Some people get it because they’re listening to what is being said and understand that captivation if not interrogated can get you in trouble faster than a condescending tone will.

Hit the nail right on the head with the religious leaders' example. The verbiage is inclusive upon induction/introduction. The message meets people where they're at. It's only later that rules, taboos and judgement is introduced. Which people are more apt to want to listen, change conform to because a relationship/camaraderie has been built. Folks on the internet talking to strangers like they are somebody damn daddy and won't understand how that would give pushback or defensiveness is beyond me.
