@angelaaerial: Replying to @Dari The word “exotic” & why some dancers have steered away from it. Some people might not think it’s a big deal. But I think words carry a lot of weight! And acknowledging this specific words & it’s roots in SW culture. #dancer #poletok #poledancer #poletalk #heelsdance #fyp
If I hear a workshop described as “exotic” I assume it’s going to be an old school stripper style (which is a good thing- I love that style). It’s quite a retro term these days.

I'm mixed - my mom is YT. People call me that and I'm literally all around American. Like.????? But the word is offensive - almost animalistic

I really appreciate you take and explanation on the topic. In belly dance which I did for 13 yrs professionally, the word tribal has been removed from the lexicon due to similar reasons.

its the "Perpetual Foreigner" mindset I'm viewing, especially, Asian people. most commonly face "Oh where are you from?" "America." "No like, where are you *from*" because Asians are notoriously seen as not *from* here. at least they dropped "oriental", I guess? 😅

Wonderfully put! Exotic just comes across as dehumanizing when it’s coming from consumers of sex work instead of sex workers- especially men who are fetishizing WOC
