Yessssss!! I always use a crochet hook when I pick up stitches. Bonus tip: if you’re using interchangeable knitting needles from a company that *also* makes interchangeable Tunisian crochet hooks, you can just swap one needle to the Tunisian hook for picking up and then swap it back to the knitting needle once you have all the stitches you need

I've never really had problems picking up stitches with knitting needles, but I see how it is more comfortable with crotched hooks. Maybe also depending on how slippery your yarn and needles are. I use wooden needles, they tend to be way less slippery.
