![Some say Jesus only kept the Sabbath because He hadn’t died yet—but that misses the bigger picture. The Sabbath isn’t just a temporary law given at Sinai or something canceled at the cross. Look at the evidence: 1. The Sabbath was given before any covenant with Israel. In Genesis 2:2-3, “God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it He had rested from all His work which God created and made.” This blessing happened before Abraham, before Moses, before any Old Covenant. The Sabbath is rooted in creation itself—a gift for all humanity. 2. The destruction of Jerusalem proves Sabbath continued after the cross. In Matthew 24:20, Jesus, speaking decades ahead, said: “But pray ye that your flight be not in the winter, neither on the Sabbath day.” Why warn about fleeing on the Sabbath if it would no longer matter after His death? The Sabbath clearly remained relevant even after the resurrection. 3. Isaiah 66 shows the Sabbath in the new earth. Isaiah prophesied: “For as the new heavens and the new earth, which I will make, shall remain before Me… it shall come to pass, that from one sabbath to another, shall all flesh come to worship before Me, saith the LORD.” (Isaiah 66:22-23). This isn’t legalism—this is eternal worship. 4. Hebrews 4:9 affirms it for believers today. Paul writes: “There remaineth therefore a rest [Greek: sabbatismos—Sabbath-keeping] to the people of God.” (Hebrews 4:9). Even after the cross, there “remains” a Sabbath rest—not abolished but honored as a sign of God’s completed work. 5. Revelation 14 ties Sabbath to the last warning message. The first angel cries: “Fear God, and give glory to Him… and worship Him that made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and the fountains of waters.” (Revelation 14:6-7). This language echoes the Sabbath commandment in Exodus 20:11. The Sabbath is key in the final call to worship the true Creator. The Sabbath transcends covenants, cultures, and dispensations—it’s part of God’s eternal plan.
