Nahh nah wrong, he IS rubber that’s all, like JoyBoy was 800 years ago, he can then do whatever he wants when he awaken, having a body COMPLETELY rubber, with his bones turning into rubber too, and THEN he gain the ability to do whatever he wants, no one told him he could do whatever he wants, and he did, so if he could do it before, why wouldn’t he grab light ? Beat anyone ? Actually… turn white and get the Gear 5th ? Because he only was rubber, it’s a zoan, not a paramythia, doing anything he want with his imaginary is an ability, it would be a paramythia then, but it isn’t, just like Kaku ate the Devil Fruit of the Girafe, he becomes and have the abilities of what he’s supposed to incarnate, a Girafe. Luffy, it’s the same, he incarnates JoyBoy, which had a body made of Rubber, and then when he awakens, he become COMPLETELY JoyBoy, and have the sale abilities, so no, before Gear 5th, Luffy couldn’t do whatever he wants with his imagination, it comes with the awakening

This is a fun theory but sadly it’s wrong. It is stated that Nika had a body of rubber that is why luffy had a body of rubber and it wasn’t until his awakening he could access the full limitless power of the nika fruit.
