I once played as a fighter who got better as she drank until she hit a tipping point and was way worse. When she was sober fighting, she would have a deficit, and I'd have to roll to see how impared/hungover she was.

omg I'ma use this. but instead of just counting 20, I'ma have them (probably me in secret) make a con save against an escalating DC that increases every time they take a potion and decrease every long rest.

my players drunken monk is an alcoholic and he gets disadvantage on rolls if he drinks less than a certain amount per day. he has an alchemy jug and makes his own brew so it isn't much of an issue but I totally plan to do something with it one day hehehe

I used to have players that never bothered to check if the potions they “acquired” were actually potions. I slipped a few potions of poison into the stack and… well a raise dead scroll had to be found 😈

once, during a party, my half elf got drunk and it was the only time the dice would be on my favour and give me a 20 nat! 💀 It was only when I got a drink. If not, I rolled ones, fours, etc...
