the apothecary diaries is genuinely written so well in terms of how it discusses topics and how the story plays through, especially how unreliable the narrative is and i think that's a wonderful element in the story progression and also expressing maomao as a character. it's actually criminal to skip over that just because it's a female lead

tad is very good written, I have seen thousands of analyses about the novel and the characters in general. I can say that you won't find the complexity of maomao just anywhere, a female character that does NOT meet anime standards: “A naive girl who serves to please the public” a wrong thought. A RATIONAL and CORRECT young woman is something she has in abundance. Conclusion: Maomao is an excellent character with further development to come.

Agree so hard honestly and I wanna say, even in manhwas some of the fmcs are really good written. Look at my in laws are obsessed with me, even if the name is cliche, the series it a good job tackling sensitive topics and making the fl and everyone around her act as real people

My personal unpopular opinion (please don't take it too seriously.) Is that especially in anime, the only way to make people actually like a female mc is to water down every possible emotion they can feel. Like how most of them are so nonchalant and have an emotionless look on their faces all the time. cause god forbid a girl can express her rage and feelings 💔
