Each parent contributes 39 chromosomes, giving the puppy a total of 78 chromosomes that carry the genetic instructions for a wide range of traits. These traits may include physical characteristics such as coat color, ear shape, and tail type, as well as behavioral tendencies and vulnerability to certain health conditions. How these traits are expressed depends on the combination of genes inherited and whether those genes are dominant or recessive. In short: I’ve had this dog since he was six months old. He is almost 5 years old. And I don’t appreciate you acting like I went out and bought him randomly on whim, without any thought, when I bought him AS A PUPPY. Puppies don’t stay the same when they grow into adults. I know his lines like how I know my own medical history. I can rattle off his pedigree in my sleep. He wasn’t this size or this driven back then. Dogs like him take 3-4 years to mature mentally and physically—size, drive, personality and temperament all included. As for his breed, it doesn’t change a thing. Any breed can be a service dog. Any breed can excel in sports. Any breed can work. Can all dogs be a service dog? No. Can all dogs do sports? No. Can all dogs work? No. I had a bullherder before him, and before that, I’ve owned three Cirneco dell’Etna (hunting, coursing, conformation), a Coonhound/Bloodhound mix, and a Chow. I also consulted with his previous handler and the owner of the detection/training company, who’s a former K9 officer. They said he was a great fit for the job. In fact, three other people were interested in him, but they chose me. I chose him because his personality and confidence make him the best match for me. His size? Sure, it’s a factor, but it’s not an issue. He’s suited for tasks that need a bigger dog. He’s not “too much” for me. But your comments?
