How you’re doing it sounds good from the author standpoint. As a dev editor, I’m going through your book start to finish, the way a reader will. My job is to make sure it’s going flow and work for the reader (without changing your voice). After you go through it the way you currently are, I recommend reading it out loud start to finish to find the errors and things that sound awkward.
