it's easier for everyone involved if you feed already dead feeders. you can buy them frozen, thaw with hot water, and then use tongs to wiggle them in front of the snake. no hugging strawberries, no squeak, and no biting the snake

Honey. Let me hold your hand when I tell you this. You gotta put the rat in a bag and crack the bag on your back deck. Or countertop. I highly recommend not giving a live rat to a snake. I’ve seen more than one snake get its face eaten off. 🫡

Biologist, former zoo keeper and reptile breeder here: you were given bad advice by the store. There is absolutely no reason your snake can't take frozen-thawed mice and rats. It's dangerous for your snake and cruel to the food. The truth is that there are 2 kinds of people who feed live animals: stressed out, highly trained, scientists desperarely trying to keep a 3g viper from the armpit of the rainforest alive for long enough to research; and psychopaths who feed live because they like to watch things die.

lol oh nooo! I have a python and feed him frozen feeders that we thaw!… he has never had a live rat and we were told pick either frozen or alive and that’s the choice for life :(

You should definitely feed rats because they have a lower fat content than mice, but you should also feed frozen thawed to ensure your snake doesn’t get injured during a feed because snake vets 💰

Frozen is easier emotionally but it does lose some of the vitamins when you feed frozen so sometimes you’ll have to give it additional food the help it get a balanced diet.

Live feeding is rough on a snake. Don't know what kind of snake, but if it's a constrictor it gonna get bitten and scratched. As the prey fights for its life.
