Im an OG Blue fan but Silver really had the best rival story. A thief, unwanted son of the OG villain, crushes his daddys henchmen because he cant find fhe old man, changes his perspective on pokemon but never becomes your ally. I wish we could see him grown up.

I loved how Ur rival always picked the stronger type Pokemon it literally encourages you to team build. I pick Charmander and he picked Squirtle? better go get a Pikachu to beat him and cover a weakness of mine. but nowadays there's no reason to get something to cover your weakness because Ur rarely gonna encounter it in a major battle

Because in modern games, they give a stronger trainer that Pokémon that is stronger against your Pokémon so you have a more difficult time late game. base Sun and Moon do that, SwSh do that, and Clavell has the starter good against yours.

You know what I want? I want our rival to have a team that directly combats out team. Like every pokemon you have on your team has a programmed pokemon that will go on your rivals team. With maybe like 2 or 3 that the rival keeps the same. Idk that sounds like a lot of programming but it would be so fun
