Tbh sounds like a manic mental breakdown to me after everything with her mom & dementia, and she’s freaking tf out , I feel like divorce is a bit much, he should’ve tracked her down and found her in person to talk to her , maybe I’m delusional but I wouldn’t just up and divorce my husband- we made vows. People take the easy way out.

If this is not the ultimate betrayal, I don’t know what is honestly. This poor guy. She ruined his entire life and was so selfish. I truly hope that karma gets her quicker than a judge can. She put OP in such a tough spot. I don’t understand how she can possibly think that she can come back without any consequences.

I have a friend with an autoimmune disease and her quality years are very limited and unpredictable so I understand why she had to take this trip and why she could not wait because when you live your life for others, raising children for your husband a time comes in your life when you want to live as well.

She already had dementia. My father’s doctor said it starts 10 years prior to the memory signs. Her emotional state and decisions shows her brain is already starting the process. I watch my dad go through the same signs.

I was raised by a scout sniper/recon marine. I made it very clear to my wife that if she ever just leaves without divorcing me I will track her to the ends of the earth to have her served. I mean that literally. I have cousins on (damn near) every continent still enlisted.

I had an aunt who did this! Left her husband a note, travelled for 3 months and was SHOCKED when he divorced her. Spent her remaining 20 years raging and refusing to acknowledge his second wife or that they’d divorced.

As someone who’s mom died of Alzheimer’s & has a dad with dementia, I’m all but assured to lose the genetic lottery. But I would NEVER abandon my wife & steal our savings to “live life while I can”. My life is with my wife.

it sounds like she’s in psychosis? he mentioned her mental health issues several times in the post. psychosis is not an excuse, but an explanation. the stress of her knowing she’ll most likely develop dementia may have sent her into psychosis. she absolutely needs to right her wrongs; pay him back in full, accept the terms of the divorce, etc. but again, psychosis is not an excuse - just possibly a reason for WHY she did this…

She planned on traveling until she got dementia then leaving op to deal with her care on top of finding a house and stable job near the house not to mention how he’ll pay for her care now that they’ve spent all their savings moving from place to place and then settling down at the ripe age of 55
