Interesting bit on that last bit. A character of my did get that knowledge about them being in a game from a god in exchange for a powerful weapon and that basically gave him the ability to will things out of existence. And that was the beginning of my first God character.

I played a bard kind of like that with limitations basically I played a bard but instead of music my art form was mining if I roled a 15 till like a 18 I could essentially mime something into existence temporarily if I rolled a 19 or higher, I could mime things into existence permanently with limitations on size for example there was an enemy that we needed to kill so I made a small explosive to throw at them and once I get to a high enough level and we’re fighting the BBG I plan to have a bucket of water on hand and make as much pure Frankieum as I can and then just nuke the BBEG

tbf 5e rules as writen there are ways to mantle the sphere of influence a god has but its much more like oblivion and the hero of kavatch mantling sheogorath were basically you become that god you would be the new platinum dragon or raven queen and its not necessarily explained how much your characters humanity and sense of self are kept in this process and also the only real stat blocks for God's come from earlier editions putting their cr well above anything in the book some of the weakest ones are in the high 30s low 40s with some creatures reaching up to the 60s instead of the max 20 limit to 5e so with out some form of intervention your party won't survive fighting a god to kill it and ascend one of its members to take its place but you can find plot points to weaken it or set up a god slaying bbeg and the slain gods all pass their divinity on to glorious champions to take out this monstrosity

I’m a bit new to DND and I don’t know if like wizards and necromancer are in the same category or whatnot, but wouldn’t a necromancer at lvl 20 just be Death itself with the power to raise the dead? having a hoard of incredibly powerful undead and being able to resurrect anything?
