Even drinking can’t get him away from his problems, feeling responsible of his brother and mother death. He might think all the time “if I didn’t get Vergil mad 35 years ago, maybe we stayed together in the closet and survived what happened that day” and can’t help but blame himself all the time and try to deal with everything by his own, thinking this will make him feel better and will pull away some weight of his shoulders. But no. Helping people will no way make him run away from his guilt and sadness
